Entropy

Entropy deals with the struggles of Rupert Longue-Tongue, the heir of a once well-respected family, as he escapes to rural Tasmania to grieve for his brother’s suicide while trying to identify where responsibility for this tragedy lays.

Less than a year after his brother Erskine’s suicide, Rupert’s flamboyant Uncle Erskine dies in embarrassing circumstances leaving Rupert to inherit the Tiers, a property in Tasmania. Rupert promptly flees there to escape his family’s public disgrace and parents’ difficulties coping with their loveless marriage and son’s death.

Interactions with a motley bunch of local personalities and a visit by his two best friends humorously expose Rupert’s interpersonal shortcomings. These experiences lay bare the impacts of his family’s dysfunction and, in doing so, Rupert is forced to draw the line between personal responsibility and the family environment as factors contributing to both his own challenges and his brother’s death.

Entropy explores loss, responsibility and forgiveness, as the protagonist strives to identify the root causes of the circumstances that have shaped his life, character and actions.
